Q1. The distinction between granite and marble

A :

1.Granite: Has dense texture, dot pattern. Its density is higher than 2800kg/m3. It has high compressive strength, about 1000-3000kg/m3. Granite has different colors. It’s not easy to be weathered, with high acid and alkali resistance. Its color can maintain for more than a hundred years. The granite with higher quality is mostly used for making high precision machine equipment. If you drop an acidic agent on the surface of granite, it keeps stable without any chemical reaction.


2.Marble: Has striped pattern. It’s softer than granite. The pores are relatively bigger. Its density is 2600kg/m3, and its compressive strength is about 700-1500kg/m3.
Marble has a variety of colors and patterns, and is mostly used as interior and exterior decoration materials for high-end buildings.

Q2. The advantages of granite component materials

A :

1. Effectively ensure the overall accuracy of the machine tool: granite machine bed, gantry, machine bed and other machine tool components are all manufactured by manual grinding under constant temperature and humidity. The straightness, flatness, parallelism and verticality can reach 0.0015mm/1000mm*1000mm


2.The Shore hardness of granite is 108, which is 3 times that of cast iron, and the wear resistance is 20 times that of cast iron. The compressive strength is 2290-3750 kg/cm2. It is resistant to abrasion, acid, alkali, and corrosion, and does not deform under heavy pressure.


3.The coefficient of linear expansion is one-third of that of cast iron, and the thermal stability is 20 times that of cast iron. Its thermal deformation is very little.


4.The damping coefficient (the ability to prevent and absorb vibration) of granite is 10 times larger than that of cast iron, and it is all solid, with good ability of shock absorption. From experiments, it has proved that the use of granite machine bed, gantry, machine bed and other machine tools can increase the surface accuracy of workpieces by 30%, and the tool durability can be improved by 37%.


5.Unlike metallic materials, granite doesn’t have plastic deformation nor magnetic reaction. Granite has good rigidity and physical properties.


6.Granite doesn’t rust. It’s easy to maintain and has longer service life. Stone processing has low energy consumption, no pollution. The material is derived from nature. It is eco-friendly and has high social benefits.

Q3. Maintenance of granite component

A:Granite structure is a kind of precision measuring tool, which plays an important role in the inspection of mechanical parts and precision tools. It is an ideal high-precision measuring instrument. Many people may just know how to use it, but they don’t know granite components need regular maintenance to make it last longer. The hardness of granite is very high with good durability, the application of granite measuring tools is also quite extensive. Many people think that there is no need to maintain granite measuring tools. However, any tool needs to be maintained so that it can be used for a longer time.

1. The dents or corners of the granite structural parts on the non-working surface are allowed to be repaired.

2. When measuring parts on the granite machine bed, you should wait until the parts are completely stopped before measuring, otherwise it will not only wear the measuring surface of the measuring tool and lose its accuracy, but also can cause accidents. 3. Before measuring, the measuring surface of the granite measuring tool and the measuring surface of the parts should be wiped clean to avoid the existence of dirt which may affect the measuring accuracy.

4. When installing thread inserts in the granite components with grade 0 or grade 1 surface, the inserts should not be higher than the working surface.

5. The measuring surface of the granite measuring tool and the measuring surface of the parts should be wiped clean before measurement to avoid the dirt from affecting the measurement accuracy.

6. During the use of granite measuring tools, do not stack them with other tools, such as files, hammers, turning tools and drills, to avoid damage to the measuring tools. Don't just put the measuring tool on the machine to avoid the measuring tool falling down and being damaged due to the vibration of the machine.

The accuracy of granite components should be maintained regularly. The granite components are made of natural granite and ground by hand. After processed by machines, the granite components have to be processed by further grinding to reach the desired accuracy.

Natural granite is a non-renewable natural resource. After years of exploitation, it has become a rare product due to very few raw materials left. With the reducing of raw materials, its price gets higher and higher. If the flatness of working surface is worn out, it can be manually repair to reach the original accuracy.
